Calko Group YHL – Coaching Code of Conduct

I WILL:

  • Remember winning is a consideration, but not the only one, nor the most important one. I will care more about the players than I do about winning a game.
  • Promote fun and enjoyment of the game, and ensure that all players receive as close to equal ice-time as possible
  • Be a positive role model to all players, display emotional maturity and be alert to the physical safety of players.
  • Be generous with praise when it is deserved; be consistent, honest, fair and just; learn to be a more effective communicator and coach.
  • Adjust to personal needs and problems of players, be a good listener, never verbally or physically abuse a player or official; give all players the opportunity to improve their skills, gain confidence and develop self-esteem; teach them the basics.
  • Maintain an open line of communication with the players’ parents. Explain the goals and objectives of the team.
  • Respect all players, opposing coaches, parents, officials, timekeepers and most important of all, the game.

If you agree with these terms, then you’re exactly the type of coach we want. This league isn’t about winning, it’s about fun. While it won’t always be smooth, let’s do everything we can to provide these boys and girls with the best experience possible.
